Perfect Storm

This was a fun piece to create as it began with a limited palette of three colors. While I painted it at Laguna Beach, I actually painted it in the LPAPA Gallery, along with other artists being challenged while painting with a limited palette. I selected the hues of ultramarine blue, burnt sienna, and titanium white and began with a simple 10 to 15 minute wash on paper while considering an ocean theme. Because the initial wash laid a compositional foundation, this small painting more easily resulted by both adding and subtracting color. Finally, the use of a satin medium, while mixing these hues, promoted my desired outcome.
