Mark Chagall said: “Originality stems from the origin.” I seek to make original art and believe that God is the origin of all creativity.
I recall a comment by American artist, Chuck Close, that indicated "Good artists don't need to wait for inspiration; they just show up." When we experience those times when the creative spirit becomes dry, I believe we should seek to paint the dryness. The obstacle can become an opportunity. Those accidents in painting can become the real blessing.
As a teenager I read a comment by Michelangelo. In his senior years he apparently concluded the following: "My only regret is that I have not done more for the salvation of my soul and that I am just beginning to learn the alphabet of my profession."
As the journey continues for all of us, may we truly know the origin, accept the accidents, and show up to paint through the dryness.
